Integrated Device Manufacturing 2.0: Intel Rescue Strategy

Intel has been losing the market for four years already. At this time, AMD, which is the main competitor, is gaining a position in the processor market. In particular, AMD in the first quarter of 2021 caught up and surpassed Intel in the desktop market. Intel are forced to take active and decisive action to restore their position. The company's new strategy includes three main points: the construction of new factories, the development of 7 nanometer technology and partnership programs with major chip manufacturers.

The new strategy is called IDM 2.0 (integrated device manufacturing 2.0). This strategy requires a lot of financial investment.

Intel intends to spend $ 20 billion to build two semiconductor electronics factories. The factories will be built in Arizona next to existing manufacturing facilities. Intel is now lagging behind the competition in adopting new technologies. Competitors release chips with 5nm technology, while Intel has only 10nm technology. The management of the company announced that in the next few years 7-nanometer technology will be mastered on the basis of its own production. This will definitely be a competitive advantage since AMD does not have its own production facilities.
